In the online world an aspect of marketing that is heavily promoted is the idea of You Inc or Attraction Marketing.
The premise is that you market yourself as a self-proclaimed guru who is going to be able to help your prospects achieve their goals.
And how do you help them achieve success? By teaching them to market themself as a guru.
We’ve all seen the pitches like
“Failing at MLM? You need this secret formula for success.” or
“What your upline will never tell you”
The problem with this is that it doesn’t always duplicate. Not everyone wants to become an expert in marketing and web 2.0 to be able to teach all that to next person.
And when it does duplicate you get an army of clones all with this magic secret or system… Which is to tell more people they have a magic secret or system, albiet mixed in with some solid basic advice.
Don’t get me wrong, posture is critical. It is very important to position yourself as a capable person who is going to be able to help a prospect. And to have a system in place they can follow.
Sometimes we need to move the focus from You Inc to Them Inc. It’s their fears that are going to stop them joining your business. You need to learn to find out what they are and deal with their issues. Get on the phone and show that your a normal person and you don’t have to be someone special to succeed in the business.
The real success in network marketing comes when the average person can duplicate. To have true guru success you need to be able to teach others to succeed without having guru status themselves.
